Where to dance in Tbilisi: bachata, salsa, kizomba and dance bars

If you want a partner dance, go to a school: Bliss Dance near Marjanishvili metro teaches bachata, and Salsa Sunrise and Caliente Dance Academy teach salsa, bachata and kizomba. If you want a room that dances after midnight, the bars tagged for dancing on Rorame are Ace and Mimosa bar & kitchen on Vashlovani Street in Vera, and Riser on Queen Tamar Avenue in Didube. Clubs come last: they fill after 01:00 and peak between 03:00 and 04:00.

Where can you dance bachata, salsa or kizomba in Tbilisi?

Partner dance in Tbilisi runs through a few schools. They teach the classes and announce the socials. These are three whose classes we could confirm:

• Bliss Dance: a bachata school at 91 Dimitri Uznadze St, near Marjanishvili metro. Group classes from beginner to advanced, couples classes, Lady Style and private lessons. The first group class is free.
• Salsa Sunrise: a salsa school at 22 Bidzina Kvernadze St that also teaches bachata and kizomba. Classes run Monday to Thursday, with beginner and improver groups earlier in the evening and advanced groups later.
• Caliente Dance Academy: a salsa, bachata and kizomba academy on Agmashenebeli Avenue, with salsa classes for mixed levels. The timetable varies by level and teacher, so ask the studio for this week's.

Timetables change with the season, so check each school's page for this month's schedule before you go. If you are visiting, message the school first and it will tell you which group fits your level.

Are there dance classes for adults and couples in Tbilisi?

Yes. The schools above teach adults, from complete beginners up. Bliss Dance runs couples bachata on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, a beginners' group followed by a progressive one, and Lady Style on Fridays.

You do not need to bring a partner. Bliss says beginners rotate partners within the group, and that rotating is never required if you would rather stay with the person you came with. Its couples classes run 70 minutes, longer than most.

Ballroom is a different track. A 2024 account by a dancer who trained in Georgia describes its ballroom and Latin dancesport programmes as primarily focused on children and juniors. For an adult couples class with no competition in mind, the social Latin schools are the simpler place to start.

Before a first class:

• Wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
• Arrive a few minutes early to get used to the studio and the floor.
• Book by message. Bliss takes bookings on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
• Ask which style and level the group dances, so you land in the right room.

Where are the bachata and salsa socials?

A social is a party for partner dancers: no lesson plan, just music and people asking each other to dance. In Tbilisi many socials happen on Friday night, often in a bar or at a partner venue near the centre, according to Bliss Dance.

Salsa Sunrise lists a weekly Friday Latin night at its own studio, with salsa, bachata and kizomba from 20:30 to 01:00. It is listed for beginners and experienced dancers alike. The Friday social at Salsa Sunrise ends at 01:00, about when the bars below start to dance. You can do both in one night.

Which bars in Tbilisi do people dance in?

Three bars carry the dancing tag on Rorame right now, and the dancing filter shows them together. None is a club. They are small rooms where the dancing starts after midnight.

Ace, Vashlovani Street

Ace is a small Georgian bar at 5 Vashlovani St in Vera, run by hosts who treat guests like family. The sound system is good and the DJ takes requests, so ask at the bar if you want something specific; the regulars dance. Listed hours are 20:00 to 04:00 every night.

Mimosa bar & kitchen, Vashlovani Street

Mimosa is a few doors along at 8 Vashlovani St. It sums itself up as queer, drinks, food and parties, and its tags on Rorame are music by choice, dancing and intimate. It is listed open 20:00 to 04:00, and until 06:00 on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Riser, Queen Tamar Avenue

Riser is at 18 Queen Tamar Ave in Didube and keeps different hours: it opens at 16:00, Wednesday to Sunday, and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Weeknights lean to live music and food, Fridays are loud, and weekend nights run on mainstream pop. It is listed until 04:00 on Friday and Saturday and until 02:00 on the other open nights.

Which place fits which kind of night?

What time do people start dancing in Tbilisi?

Later than you expect. Classes run from about 19:00 to 22:00, and the Friday social at Salsa Sunrise goes to 01:00. Bars fill from 22:00, and the small rooms on Vashlovani Street dance after midnight.

Clubs open their doors around midnight, but no queue worth joining forms before 01:00, and every dancefloor in the city is at its best between 03:00 and 04:00. After that the late cafés take over, with khachapuri and coffee around 06:00.

A full dancing night, in order:

1. 19:30: a bachata or salsa class, Monday to Thursday at the schools above.
2. 22:00: dinner, or the Friday social if it is Friday.
3. After midnight: Ace or Mimosa on Vashlovani Street, or Riser on a Friday or Saturday.
